Enoshima Overnight Guide: Early-Morning Sakai River Mouth → Daybreak Main Breakwater (Fri 6/19)
Night sea bass + dawn blue runners · Medium tide · Solo · Lure fishing
In one line: In the early hours, fish the rising tide for night sea bass at the Sakai River mouth on the Katase side (minnow through the light/dark line), leave right at 04:35, then be there when the main breakwater opens at 05:00 for dawn blue runners (metal vibration). It is fine if the night sea bass skunks, but do not be late for the dawn prime time. Vehicles are prohibited on the island from 22:00–05:00, so park on the Katase side at night and do not drive onto the island.
① Time & Tides (Overnight)
6/19 (Fri), Enoshima/Katase, medium tide. After low tide at 01:00, the tide rises all the way to high tide at 06:20 — seawater pushes into the Sakai River mouth at night, and sea bass come in with the current; sunrise at 04:25 overlaps with the pre-high-tide period = the dawn blue-runner window.

Afternoon set (this trip focuses on late night + early morning)
1Sakai River Mouth (Night Session)——early-morning night sea bass, the large river mouth at the base of Enoshima Bridge. 2Shonan Main Breakwater——dawn blue runners, eastern end of Enoshima (opens at 5:00). P24h Parking (Katase Side)——do not park on the island. Purple dashed line = walking transfer route (P→①→across the bridge→②).
Rising tide + light/dark line under the bridge; the Enoshima side is the boat channel (dredged deeper) → cast that way because fish gather more there
Inside Katase Fishing Port / East Promenade
—
There are no-fishing/restricted areas; signs are hard to see at night, so do not enter
② Shonan Main Breakwater
05:15–08:00 dawn prime time
Good footing, long casts to find roaming fish; do not climb the tetrapods, and do not enter the lighthouse/yacht areas
③ Night Session · Sakai River Mouth Method (Sea Bass)
The Sakai River is the big river at the base of Enoshima. The Enoshima side is the boat channel: deep, dredged, and with bottom contours, so fish like to gather there; there are many small baitfish (ponyfish) here, so using a minnow/sinking pencil in a similar color and slowly swimming it in an S-shape through the light/dark line is a proven local method. The rising tide pushes seawater and baitfish into the river mouth, and sea bass come in with the current.
Night session · Sakai River Mouth (light/dark line + rising tide)
Main target: sea bass (seigo/suzuki); incidental black seabream/barracuda are possible; do not sacrifice your rhythm for cutlassfish.
Minnow 90–120mm: cast upstream or diagonally upstream, let the lure enter the light/dark line, slow retrieve + occasional pause, do not jerk hard (night sea bass eat a stable swimming action). Key areas: downstream side of bridge piers, light/dark boundary, edge of the river-mouth current seam.
T-tail backup 5–10g: when the surface is quiet but there is flow, slow-roll the middle to lower layer; there is lots of debris at the river mouth, so do not drag along the bottom for too long.
If there is no response after 5–8 casts from one angle, change angles; also sweep the 5–15m zone at your feet, and do not camp one spot forever.
④ Dawn Prime Time · Main Breakwater Method (Blue Runners)
The real blue-runner chance on this day is the short window after daybreak, so grab a position as soon as the main breakwater opens (5:00). Targets: small blue runners wakashi/shogo + lots of mackerel, with sea bass/barracuda as secondary options.
Dawn prime time · Main Breakwater (layered metal vibration + long casts to find roaming fish)
Metal vibration/metal jig main setup 20–30g (40g in strong wind): start with 5–10 fast retrieves near the surface; if no response, count down 5 seconds/10 seconds to search layers; lift quickly after touching bottom to avoid snags.
Colors: just after daybreak, pink-silver/blue-pink/zebra glow; after it gets bright, blue-silver/sardine color.
If you see birds pushing bait / surface boils (nabura), cast long directly at them.
When the blue runners slow down, follow up with minnow/T-tail: breakwater base, tide lines, structure edges → barracuda/rockfish/small sea bass.
⑤ Match Three Lures to the Time Slot
Time Slot
Main Lure
How to Fish It
01:00–02:00 low tide turning to rising
Minnow (shallow/mid diver)
Slow retrieve + pauses; send it into the light/dark line first, no hard jerks
02:00–03:30 main rising-tide window
Minnow + T-tail rotation
Surface boils → minnow; quiet but flowing → slow-roll T-tail
03:30–04:25 before daybreak
Minnow (small metal vibration if needed)
Final round; if you see birds/baitfish, quick-search with metal vibration
05:15–06:40 dawn prime time
Metal vibration/metal jig
Long casts, search layers, find roaming blue runners
06:40–08:00 cleanup fish
Minnow / T-tail
Breakwater base/tide lines/structure edges for barracuda/rockfish/sea bass
⑥ Solo Night Fishing · Safety Bottom Line
Always wear a fixed-type life jacket (waist inflatable types are not suitable for rocky shore/night); bring a headlamp + backup light.
Do not wade, do not climb wave-dissipating blocks (tetrapods), do not climb railings, and do not enter no-fishing areas in the fishing port.
During the rising tide at the river mouth, do not stand somewhere that can be surrounded by water or force you to retreat; only stand where you have an exit route, lights, and flat footing.
Do not wear earbuds in both ears (you need to hear waves and people around you); keep your phone fully charged + bring a power bank; do not leave valuables in the car.
If the south wind clearly strengthens / waves start washing onto shore / you cannot see your footing → retreat directly to the bridge side or parking lot.
Fishing straight from 01:00–08:00 is exhausting, so if you are sleepy on the way back, sleep 20–30 minutes before driving.
⑦ 24h Parking (Key: Don’t Park on the Island)
Nighttime entry/exit on the island / Shonan Port side is restricted, which conflicts with starting fishing at 01:00. Park on the Katase side 24h, 5–15 minutes on foot from the Sakai River mouth / Benten Bridge:
Times Katase-Enoshima Station Front / Repark Denny’s Enoshima Store / Fujisawa City Katase Higashihama Parking Lot / Katase Kaigan Underground Parking Lot
For places like the Enoden Parking Center, confirm business hours (some only allow entry from 04:00 or during daytime); for akippa, confirm “available 24 hours.”
When you arrive, remember the parking lot location first so you don’t get lost at night; confirm vehicle height limits.
⑧ Weather (6/19 Is This Week’s Best Window)
6/19 sunny at times cloudy, 30% chance of precipitation, 20–29°C, wind only 3m/s (northeast in the morning / south in the evening) → sea conditions are very likely to be calm at night, suitable for night fishing at the river mouth. By comparison: 6/18 rain (70%), 6/20 rain (100%). The wave-height forecast site could not fetch a precise value at the time, so before actually going to the reef / the tip of the breakwater, be sure to check that day’s swell / wave height again.
